Posted by Muhammad Akram on 30 Dec 2019 20:06

WebP is a new image format that provides superior lossless and lossy compression for images on the web. Using WebP, webmasters and web developers can create smaller, richer images that make the web faster. Our WebP extension for Opencart do the same, since not all browser support Webp format the extension detected the compatiblity and server the right type of image format.

To generate Webp image your server need to have GD library with WebP enabled. If your server do not support it the extension won't work.

To test if your server support the WebP create a new php file name it gdwebp.php and put the following content and save it. Accessing the file from a brower will show you if the server support WebP or not.

<?php

$webp_installed = gd_info();
$webp = $webp_installed['WebP Support'];

if ($webp) {
echo '<h1>WebP Supported</h1>';
} else {
echo '<h1>WebP Not Supported</h1>';
}

print_r($webp_installed);

?>
